India bans Chinese dairy products
{image-Chinese dairy products_25092008.jpg news.oneindia.in}New Delhi, Sept 25 : India has banned import of dairy products, including milk, from China for three months following reports of deaths due to contamination in whitener in the neighbouring country.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued a notification prohibiting import of dairy products (including milk) from China with immediate effect and until further orders. According to reports, at least four infants died in China after consuming the contaminated milk. Melamine, used for making plastics and fertilizer, was found in milk products of 22 Chinese dairy firms. The dangerous chemical can cause stones in kidney and its failure.
