Supply free rice to agricultural labourers: Assn to Govt

Pudukkottai, Sep 25: The District unit of Tamizh Manila Agricultural Labourers Association has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to supply 30 kg of rice free to all agricultural labourers through ration shops.

In a joint statement made on Thursday, Sep 25, Association District Secretary Sundararajan and Vice-President Muruganandam said as the agricultural labourers were reeling in abject poverty, the state government should come to their rescue.

They wanted that the identity cards under the Social Security Scheme be issued to all farm labourers, as most of them were yet to get the cards.

They appealed to the district administration to provide job to all agricultural labourers under the National Employment Guarantee Scheme, procedure on disbursement of their daily wage of Rs 80 be streamlined and old age pension be sanctioned to all farm labourers aged 60 years and above.
