Air India face OIL in men's event, upsets ONGC in women's semis

Chandigarh, Sep 26 (UNI) Holders Air India will lock horns with Oil India Limited in the men's team championship final of the All-India Public sector undertaking Table Tennis Championship being hosted by Airport Authority of India here.

Oil India Limited pulled off the biggest upset today as they shocked holders Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in the women's team championship singles semi-final by 3-0.

Olympian Sharad Kamal won both his matches but his team - Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) - were beaten by Air India who snatched a thrilling 3-2 triumph in the men's team championship semi-finals.

Sanil Shetty put Air India ahead by beating S Ghosh 11-7, 11-7, 5-11, 13-11. Sharad Kamal neutralised the lead for IOCL by outpointing Pathik Mehta 8-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-3. With Aniket prevailing over Rajeev Ghai 9-11, 4-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-4, Air India again shot into the lead.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sharad Kamal defeated Sanil Shetty 11-4, 11-7, 11-7 to put IOCL at two all. In the deciding singles Pathik Mehta clinched the win for Air India as he rallied to beat S Ghosh 6-11, 11-7, 11-5, 13-11.

In the second team championship semi-final, Oil India Limited stunned ONGC 3-2. Devash Karia gave a sterling performance as he won both his matches. In the first singles he defeated Amal Raj 11-8, 11-6, 6-11, 11-9. In the last singles he accounted for R Das 11-9, 11-9, 11-5.

Indian Oil Corporation shocked defending champions Oil and Natural Gas Corporation 3-0. In the second team championship semi-final, Oil India Limited blanked Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited by 3-0.

Olympian Neha Aggarwal, of Bharat Petroleum Corporation, who represented India at the Beijing Olympics, lost both her matches as BPCL were blanked by their rivals OIL 3-0.
