Tourism Australia eyes Indian couples, honeymooners

Chennai, Sep 24 (UNI) Tourism Australia's India Travel Mission (ITM) has decided to focus on Indian couples and honeymooners as part of its marketing strategy in India to promote Tourism in Australia.

Talking to newspersons here, Ms Maggie White, General Manager, South/South East Asia and Gulf countries, Tourism Australia, said India continued to be one of Australia's fastest growing markets.

On tourism Australia's marketing strategy in India, she said, there was a continued focus on the couple's travel segment, including honeymooners as well as the family travel segment during India's peak outbound travel season.

Australia continued to be Indian's highly aspirational destination, she said, adding, the growth of Indians touring Australia, witnessed an incredible growth last year with the visit of about 95,000 people.

''This year, we expect 26 per cent growth'', she added.

Mr Richard Beere, Executive General Manager, International (Eastern), said Australia remained as a leisure destination. About 5.6 million people visited Australia last year and India had been an important contributor to these figures, he said.

Ms Abhishala Jain, Manager, ITM, said Tourism Australia's ITM, would hold its annunal business forum here till September 26. This year's event has attracted 134 buyer representatives from India and 51 seller representatives from Australia.
