Pub sec banks down shutters in response to all India protest
New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) Commercial operations in the Capital city were affected today as Public Sector banks and their associate banks downed shutters in response to all India protest by the united forum of bank unions in protest against the government's privatatisation policy.
About nine lakh bank employees of 26 public sector banks are on a two-day nationwide strike beginning today to protest the government's policies on wage revision and its move to merge the banks and allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in the sector.
Talking to UNI, United forum of bank unions convener C H Venkatachalam said the strike was the result of the failure of talks on various issues with the chief labour commissioner.
About 50,000 employees from 26 public sector banks like the State Bank of India and the Punjab National bank are participating in the strike.
