Mixed reactions to Khairlanji verdict
Nashik, Sep 24 (UNI) There were mixed reactions to the verdict in Khairlanji massacre case, in which four members of a Dalit family were killed by a mob over a land dispute in September 2006.
''We are satisfied with the verdict. The awarding of death sentence to six accused and lifer to two others is quite satisfactory,'' Maharashtra Republican Party of India (A) secretary Priykrity Tribhuvan told UNI today.
''We are not satisfied with the verdict. We demand re-inquiry into the case by a capable officer and also retrial of the case. We will stir people to launch an agitation in this matter,'' remarked National Republican Party disctrict president Deepak Nannaware.
''This is injustice, as only eight of the total 48 accused have been punished. Our agitation against this will not stop, and will continue in future. The direction and further course of action will be decided after discussion with our leadership,'' said National Republican Party of India state secretary Shashi Gaware.
''I welcome the Khairlanji verdict which shows no one is higher or lower. It is a lesson to those who still differentiate between Dalits and others in the 21st century,'' city BJP president Vijay Sane said.
