Kolkata, Sep 24 (UNI) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today stuck to her demand for operationalisation of the agreement reached for rehabilitation of the Singur land losers as a solution to the problem continued to elude amid the fear of the Tatas pulling out of West Bengal with the Nano project.
Accusing the Left Front Government of 'treachery' for breaking agreement and thrusting a unilateral package on farmers, she also demanded imposition of Article 355 in the state.
'' The state Government has violated the Constitution by breaking the agreement reached on September seven and announcing a package unilaterally. It amounts to treachery, '' she told reporters after a meeting with Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi at the Raj Bhavan.
'' We want the agreement to be operationalised. For that we do not mind holding many more meetings. If the Government does not do it, it will lose the validity to remain in power. In such an event, we demand imposition of Article 355, '' she said.
The Trinamool supremo, who led a delegation of her party leaders and representatives of the associate outfits, said even though a committee was appointed to identify land from within the Tatas' project area to be be given back to farmers, the state Government discarded it by going ahead with the package.
In an apparent criticism of the state Government earlier in the day, the Governor said negotiation should have been held much earlier and not when a crisis was looming large.
He also advised the Government to be sensitive to the value of land to farmers.
