New Delhi, Sept 24 (UNI) On the request of the Government of Haryana, the Centre has allowed the export of PUSA 1121 variety of non-basmati rice.
Presently, there is no proposal under consideration before the Department for liftig ban on export of any other varieties of non-basmati rice, an official release said here today.
The progress of paddy and rice procured in Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2008-09 and based on the open market price of rice and availability in different parts of the country, a decision will be taken on contiuation or lifting of ban on export of rice.
The availability of rice in the country in the current year has been reviewed by the Government. The harvesting of paddy is likely to start from first week of October onwards.
On the request of Haryana Government, the procurement of paddy has been preponed to September 22, 2008 while the paddy procurement in Punjab has been preponed to September 29, 2008.
In several parts of the country, there is a possibility of some damage to paddy crop due to recent floods and assessment of the same is being made in consultation with the State Governments, the release added.
