Panaji, Sept 24 (UNI) Dr Ranadhir Mukhopadhyay, a senior scientist in Geological Oceanography Division at the National Institute of Oceanography in Dona Paula, will be awarded Dr J Coggin Brown Memorial gold medal for Geological Sciences for 2007-08 by Mining Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI), Kolkata.
The award will be presented to him at MGMI's 102nd annual meeting on September 27. Dr Mukhopadhyay has over 25 year of research experience in manganese nodule chemistry and morphological changes in local phases in terms of topography and acoustically transparent bottom sediment layers. He was the first to initiate ''inridge- India Mid- Ocean Ridge research.
Dr Mukhopadhyay has received many honours and awards, including the MS Krishanan gold medal and C V Raman Fellowship. He served as Director of the Mauritius Oceanography Institute for a period of two years. He has 36 research publications in various journals of national and international repute.
