CBI grill nears prime accused in SBI fake currency case

Siddharthnagar, Sep 24 (UNI) On the fourth day of its investigation into the seizure of over Rs 4 cr fake currency at SBI's Dumariyaganj chest here, the CBI today interrogated the relatives and friends of suspended SBI cashier Sudhakar Tripathi and his co-accused Abid Shekh.

According to sources, CBI conducted inquiry with more than 12 persons and the investigation was still on.

In the first two days, the probe agency had grilled SBI Dumariyaganj suspended Managar Dashrath Chirgaiya, accountant A S Sagar and other employees of the bank.

The CBI had taken up this multi-crores fake currency case in its hands on September 16.

On July 29, STF of the Uttar Pradesh Police had held SBI cashier Sudhakar Tripathi and seized Rs 7,21,000, including fake notes worth Rs 5,000 from his house and later requested the RBI for currency screening in the SBI branch.

Later on August 5, a team of senior RBI officials reached the SBI Dumariyaganj chest and seized counterfeit Indian currency worth Rs 20 lakh in Siddharthnagar district.

After two days of this, the Uttar Pradesh government had ordered probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into racket, however, on realising the seriousness of the case, the state government had recommended investigation by the CBI the very next day.

On screening, currency worth over Rs four crore were detected fake. The Dumariyaganj chest had as many as Rs 100 crore in store.
