New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) The premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will soon have a second campus in the vicinity of the Capital, a top Institute official said today.
It will be located either in Noida or Haryana, said Mr Shailesh Yadav, Deputy Director, AIIMS at a press conference here. ''We will need at least 300 acres land for the purpose. The Centre has given its go-ahead to the project.'' The need for a second campus was felt in order to ease over-crowding at its present Ansari nagar campus, he said.
''We have at least 9000 registrations everyday, of which at least 3000 to 3500 are new patients. The new campus will be another part of this Institute and will host its future expansion projects.'' The approval for AIIMS-II was given at a meeting of the Institute's Governing Council headed by Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on August 13, he said. ''The matter is being taken up with the Government s of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for allotment of land.'' Mr Yadav was speaking to reporters on the eve of AIIMS' 53rd Foundation Day. He said, on the occasion a three-day exhibition ''Emerging Trends in Health Sciences'' was being organised in the campus to spread awareness about various health issues.
He said the exhibition will focus on topics like healthy food basket, screening for cancer, knowing your body mass index, assisted reproduction technology, heart diseases, pacemakers, DNA finger printing, reducing obesity, prevention of adolescent anaemia among others.
