Madikeri, Sep 23: Dasara Temple Committees flagging decorated cars (Mantapam) on the Navaratri day on October One have decided to derail the date and hold the grand procession on a different date.
The 10 Temple Committees which met here yesterday under the chairmanship of Dasha Mantap Committee President Lokesh took a decision to retaliate with the Dasara Committee headed by the CMC President P D Ponnappa and the Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan.
The committee members passed the above resolution alleging that the Dasara Committee has not released any amount to the temples so far and it is slowing down the preparation of Mantapams. They said that the procession will take off on a different date if the Dasara Committee does not co-operate with them.
The Dasha Mantapa Committee Secretary Teertananda, addressing the members, said that they have appealed to the Dasara Committee to release Rs One lakh each to the 10 Mantapams and Rs 50,000 for taking Karaga. They have also asked the Committee to distribute cash prizes of Rs One lakh, 70,000 and 50,000 respectively for first, second and third prize winners. They noted that the government was releasing Rs 30 lakhs and the fund should not be deviated to road repair or so.
Navaratri festival will begin from first of October and no activities have yet begun. The roads of the town are in a highly dilapidated condition.
