TDP promises fair deal for women
Hyderabad, Sep 23 (UNI) Preparing Telugu Desam Party(TDP) for the 2009 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu today said his party would give prominence to women in selection of candidates and formulate schemes for their welfare.
Addressing the TDP women activists here, Mr Naidu launched a scathing attack on the ruling Congress for allegedly pursuing ''revenue-driven'' excise policy and promised to curtail sale of liquor, which was ruining a large number of families in the State, if his party was voted to power.
Expressing concern over unprecedented rise in the prices of essential commodities under the Congress regime, he recalled the market intervention initiatives of the previous TDP Government and promised to revive them.
Mr Naidu assured women to strengthen the women Self-Help Groups(SHG) by relieving them from the debt burden.
The TDP supremo also promised to increase the honorarium for Anganwadi workers and streamline the functioning of girls' hostels, which lacked basic infrastructure facilities.
