Port Blair, Sep 23 (UNI)The South Andaman District, out of three districts in the Andaman&Nicobar(A&N) Islands, has been put under 100 per cent financial inclusion with the extension of banking services with ''no fill accounts'' and the issue of general-purpose credit card (GCC).
The South Andaman district, comprising 46,434 households, had been declared as 100 per cent financially included, Lead Bank Manager Ahtesham Ali told newspersons here today.
Around 8,075 households had been covered under financial inclusion in the Nicobar district, Mr Ali said adding the district would be shortly labelled under 100 per cent financial inclusion.
'' Moreover, work is under progress to bring 23, 735 households in the North and Middle Andaman district under the 100 per cent financial inclusion by March 2009,'' he informed.
The drive for financial inclusion was commenced in line with the advice of the Reserve Bank of India for making basic banking facilties available to a vast section of population.
This includes providing access to ''no fill accounts'' involving nil or very low minimum balance.
