Sikh students visit Adarsh prison in UP capital

Lucknow, Sep 23 (UNI) Marking 300 yrs of ''Gurta Gaddi Diwas'' of the holy Shri Guru Granth Sahib, Sikh students today visited ''Adarsh Prison'' here to spread the message of peace and education among all.

Organising a programme at the prison, the Dashmesh Public School students sang hymns and distributed clothes, school dresses, bags, shoes, eateries, games along with 'prasad' among the women jail inmates.

Highlighting the importance of education, Manager of the Sri Guru Singh Sabha (Alambagh) Nirmal Singh said the education expenses of children of the women prisoners would be beared by the Dashmesh Public School from next session so that they could get admissions in English medium schools.

Earlier in the day, the Guru Granth Sahib was given a Guard of Honour before the start of the function.

There were as many as 1,000 women prisoners in the jail.
