Chandigarh, Sep 23 (UNI) Punjab was adjudged best state in the country for water supply and sanitation by the 'IBN7 Diamond States Awards'.
Former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam conferred the award to Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in New Delhi last night.
The awards were given in partnership with the 'Outlook' magazine for human resource and social developmental efforts by the states of the country.
Access to drinking water and toilet facilities were the parameters considered by the IBN Network while evaluating the performance of different states of the country in the category of water and sanitation.
While receiving the award, Mr Majhithia said the Punjab Government was fully committed to improve potable drinking water supply and quality sanitation facilities, especially in rural areas and urban slums.
He further stated that the state had taken some bold initiatives to provide quality drinking water using Reverse Osmosis technology in collaboration with Naandi Foundation, an NGO in Muktsar district.
Work on the Rs 1250 crore World Bank aided Water Supply and Sanitation project had also been expedited, he added.
