Lafrage supports flood relief operations in Bihar
Mumbai, Sep 23 (UNI) Cement Maker Lafarge India Limited has donated Rs 10 Million to support relief operations in the flood-affected areas of Bihar.
Several districts in the region were severely hit by floods in August this year, following a breach in the eastern embankment of the Kosi River adjoining the Nepal and Bihar border.
Bihar is a key area of operations for Lafarge. As a first step, the company has arranged on an emergency basis supplies of essential medicines and life-saving drugs through the Red Cross Association.
In another initiative, Lafarge has tied up with a reputed NGO to provide primary relief to the victims in the form of milk powder, dry food, basic clothing, water proof sheets, blankets and water purification tablets, a release issued by Lafarge said.
After the floods recede, Lafarge also intends to participate in rehabilitation of the displaced people.
Lafarge India CEO Uday Khanna said, ''On behalf of Lafarge, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the victims and kin of those hit by the severe floods in Bihar. Since the floods, we have been focusing on rendering assistance and aid to help the affected local communities to overcome the disaster in the best possible way.
