ICI presents demand charter to President for Muslim woes redressal
Lucknow, Sep 23 (UNI) Members of Islamic Centre of India (ICI), a Muslim organisation, today met President Pratibha Devisingh Patil at the Rajbhavan here this evening demanding setting up of a commission to probe all the terrorist incidents during the past five years by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
A delegation of the ICI led by Dar-ul-ulum principal Maulana Saidul Haman Azmi Nadvi and ICI general secretary Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali presented eight-point charter of demand before the President.
The maulanas said Mrs Patil had given a patient hearing to their demands and assured them to consider it.
According to the demand, a commission under a SC judge to probe into all the terrorists incidents and arrests made in those connection in the country in the last five years. The commission should work efficiently and make public its report within one year.
Other demands include, arrest of innocent Muslims on the name of terrorism and defaming Muslims in the name of terrorism should be stopped, most backward Muslims to be included under Article 341 of the constitution, reservation for the most backward Muslims as per the Sachar committee report, a separate Muslim commission should be made within the Planning Commission, immediate implementation of the Srikrishna Commission report and establishing minority university like Aligarh Muslim University(AMU) in other parts of the country.
The delegation also urged the President to constitute a high level board giving representations to intellectuals and Maulanas along with the public representatives to deal with the problems of the Muslim community.
