Mangalore, Sept 23 (UNI) Mr M L Kumwat, Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Union Home Ministry today opined that the district administration should have taken preventive measures to avert spread of violence incident and attacks on churches and prayer halls in Daxina Kannada District.
Speaking to presspersons at the Bajpe airport, Mr Kumwat, who is heading a highlevel team deputed by the Centre to take stock of the situation following the attacks on churches and prayer halls recently, said that it was most unfortunate such incident took place but authorities could have averted further violence if they had taken timely action.
He said that he held interactions with the injured people, police officials, officials from district administration.
Mr Kumwat said that he has advised the officials to take stringent action against those indulged in violence and attacks by bringing them to books so that the people could live without fear and secured.
He said he had also advised the administration to regularly conduct peace committee meetings at District and Taluk level involving the public even during the time of normal situation to avert any possible future such conflicts. This would also held in building confidence feel them secured. Such meeting should be held at state level, he added.
