Lucknow, Sep 23 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh Congress today apprised President Pratibha Devisingh Patil about the misrule of the Mayawati government in the state and sought her intervention into the issue.
A delegation of the Congress, led by state party chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, met the President at the Raj Bhawan this evening and apprised her about the lapses of the Bahujan Samaj Party government.
In their two-page memorandum, the Congress claimed that the law and order situation in the state was in shambles, where the Dalits and women were the soft targets.
Corruption and rampant transfers of officials by the state government were among the other issues raised by the Congress before the President. Floods was also in the list and the party alleged that the BSP government had done nothing for the relief and rescue of the affected people.
Shortage of power, pending dues of the sugarcane farmers, corruption in the NREGA schemes and forceful acquisition of agricultural land from the farmers in the name of the Ganga Expressway at Noida and Greater Noida were the other issues raked by the Congress during the meeting.
