Warkaris demonstrate at collectorate against chemical company
Nashik, Sep 22 (UNI) Members of the city branch of Maharashtra Warkari Mahamandal held demonstrations in front of the district collectorate here today, protesting setting up of a chemical company in Pune district.
They also demanded release of Bandotatya Karadkar, leader of the Mahamandal, who was arrested for protesting against the company.
The Warkaris shouted slogans and submitted a memorandum of their demands to the district collector S Chokkalingam.
''Ramachandra Mountain, at the foot of which the DAU chemical company will come up, is considered to be pious by the Warkaris, as Sant Tukaram did his penance there. It will also be hazardous to people, if the company comes up there. So the plant should not be set up there,'' Bhaskar Maharaj Rasal, one of the Warkaris, said.
''Bandotatya should also be released soon,'' he added.
