Tripura sets up corporation for the development of tourism
Agartala, Sep 22 (UNI) In a bid to promote tourism in the state by exploring its potential the government has set up Tripura Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) which started functioning here today.
Tourism minister Anil Sarkar told UNI that the decision was taken early this year but now it is taking a concrete shape and everything related to tourism now onwards will be taken care by TTDC.
The state government also appointed a senior IAS officer as Managing Director of the corporation while about 15 other people of various ranks were sent on deputation in the corporation from Information and Cultural affairs department, he informed.
Initially, the corporation would explore potential in tourism sector for private investment as several countries including Australia, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam had evinced keen interest on investing in the tourism sector here, Mr Sarkar underlined.
In just concluded fourth Northeast business summit in Guwahati Tripura government has proposed to set up a tourism circuit in the region and introduction of low cost helicopter service among the NE states to ensure smooth connectivity and provide sufficient financial assistance for promotion of eco-tourism.
Mr Sarkar also proposed for state wise tourism festival in the region.
He also demanded to declare Unakoti, a historical place in Tripura as World Heritage Site.
