Puducherry, Sep 22: Tension prevailed at Kirumambakkam in Bahour Constituency here as police arrested about 100 people, including former MLA Rajavelu on charges of preventing government officials from discharging their duty.
As many as 35 families were residing on government land at Kirumambakkam for the past 85 years and Mr Rajavelu urged the Chief Minister and Housing Minister Malladi Krishna Rao to provide them free pattas in the place, even though there was direction from the panchayat to vacate the place.

They allegedly failed to grant time to the people to remove their belongings from the houses which were demolished.
