Prohibitory order clamped in Harihar following communal tension
Davanagere, Sep 22(UNI) Police resorted to lathi charge to quell a mob which indulged in violence protesting against writing symbol of a minority community on compound wall and on 'Dwaja Stamba' (pilfer inside a Temple) in Harihar town today.
Prohibitory orders under section 144 CRPC was clamped as precautionary measure. The Orders would be in force for three days.
The agitators indulged in stone pelting and arson alleging that Police have failed to take action in a similar incident that took place three days back in the town.
Streets wore desert look as business establishments and hotels remained closed. Educational institutions remained closed and a sort of self imposed bandh like situation prevailed in the town.
Ten people were taken into custody in connection with violence.
Additional forces were rushed to the town. Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil is camping and the situation was stated to be tense but under control.
