Patil asks DGPs to improve intelligence machinery in states
New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Home Minister Shivraj Patil today asked Directors General of Police of certain states to strengthen intelligence mechanism in their States in view of the recent serial blasts in Delhi and other parts of the country.
Mr Patil held a meeting with DGPs of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Kerala many of which witnessed terror attacks in recent time.
Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and Director, Intelligence Bureau P C Haldar were among those present in the meeting.
The Home Minister said the states needed to devote more manpower to their special branches. As far as equipment is concerned, he said the Centre is willing to help the state governments to the maximum possible extent.
The Centre has been repeatedly urging the states to strengthen the intelligence apparatus by filling up the vacancies in intelligence machinery and posting more people there.
The Home Ministry has also advised states to give special incentives to those involved in the intelligence gathering work.
