Patna, Sep 22 (UNI) The CPI today alleged that the Nitish Kumar government had miserably failed in providing relief to the flood victims stranded in far-flung villages of north Bihar.

Secretary of the Bihar unit of CPI Mohammad Jabbar Alam told newspersons here that most of the relief centres were working round the clock on roadsides of the township while those stranded in far-flung villages were yet to get any succour from the government machinery in this hour of natural calamity.

''During the visit of a team constituted by the party, the glaring insensitivity of the state machinery came to the fore regarding treatment of victims suffering from diarrhoea, jaundice, typhoid and other water-borne diseases,'' Mr Alam said, adding that the state government should ensure that the medical teams visit the remote areas of flooded state.

The CPI leader charged the state government of trying to take political mileage from the relief work being carried out from the funds provided by the Centre.

''It is strange to note that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was feeling shy to take help from the Opposition parties in relief operation carried out on large scale in flood affected areas of north Bihar,'' he said.

''It is distressing that the Bihar government has even failed to constitute all party monitoring committee for supervising the relief operation,'' Mr Alam said, adding that a decision in this regard was taken long back.

The CPI leader informed that one truck each of relief material had been despatched by the party for flood victims in remote areas of three districts - Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura.
