Shillong, Sep 22 (UNI) The body of a mother and her two children were recovered at Mawkriah village, police today said.
The victims, identified as Darist Kharmuti(25), Kyntimari Kharmuti (5) and an 11-month-old-baby, were found lying in a drain near a paddy field with cut marks in their throats yesterday.
Senior police officials picked up Winning Warjri, the husband, for cross-examination.
''We picked up the husband for his contradictory statement on the incident,'' Superintendent of Police Claudia Lyngwa told UNI.
Initially, Warjri denied his involvement in the murder and claimed that he spent Saturday night with his wife and children.
However, Warjri's brother told the police that his brother stayed at another woman's house on the night of the murder.
The place where the bodies were found is near the house of the woman where Winning stayed that night.
Yesterday's incident comes a week after police recovered the bodies of two women with their throats slit at Mawpdang, a suburb of Shillong city. Three persons had been arrested.
On Friday, several women's organisations condemned the incident.
Most organisations sought creation of a separate wing of official/unit headed by a senior officer with a team of experienced officers to combat crime against women(CAW).
The NGOs also handed a 14-point charter on ways to tackle CAW to Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.
