Davanagere, Sep 22: Police resorted to lathi charge to control a mob which indulged in violence in Harihar Town on Monday, Sep 22.
The violence broke out after a symbol of a minority community was found written on a compound wall and 'Dwaja Stamba' ( main pillar) of a temple in the town.
Prohibitory orders under Sec 144 CRPC was clamped. The orders would be in force for three days.
The agitators indulged in stone pelting and arson alleging police failed to take action in a similar incident that took place three days ago in the town. Streets wore a deserted look as business establishments and hotels remained closed.
Educational institutions remained closed and a bandh-like situation prevailed in the town.
Ten people were taken into custody in connection with the violence. Additional forces were rushed to the town.
Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil was camping in the town and the situation was stated to be tense but under control.
