Lightning kills Mumbai based doctor in Bihar flood relief camp
Supaul, Sep 22 (UNI) A Mumbai-based doctor who was working in a relief camp at Birpur in this flood affeted north Bihar district, died of lightning near the camp last night.
District Magistrate N Sravan Kumar here today said the mishap occurred when the victim - Dr Chandrakant Patil- a member of a five member team of doctors from Mumbai who were working in Birpur mega relief camp since September eight, was struck by lightning amid thunder shower when the team was about to return to its base camp.
He said while Dr Patil died on the spot, his four other colleagues had a miraculous escape despite experiencing some impact of the shock and its after effects.
Incidentally, 25 year old Dr Patil was persuing his MD from KEM Medical college, Mumbai and was the only child of his parents.
His body was today flown to Mumbai via Patna after post mortem, the DM said adding four other slightly injured members of the team also left for Mumbai in the same aircraft.
As many as 50 doctors from different hospitals in Mumbai had arrived here earlier this month under the banner of an NGO ''Doctors for You'', to serve the flood affected people.
