Chandigarh, Sep 22 (UNI) The 2nd Inter Command Air Force Schools Sports Championship got underway at the Chandigarh Air Force Station on Sunday with teams from six commands and Air Headquarters comprising 380 players participating in the six-day championship.
The championship is being organised in seven disciplines namely cricket, football, basketball, table tennis (boys), table tennis (girls), badminton (boys) and badminton (girls).
In the opening tie of the inaugural football match, the Central Air Command (CAC) thrashed Maintenance Command (MC) by 5-0. Mohammad Nafis of CAC scored 3 goals, while Arvind put the ball in goal two times. In the second tie, the Western Air Command (WAC) routed Training Command (TC) by 4-0. Kelvin, Saurabh, Aman and Sarabjit of WAC scored a goal each. In third tie, Air Headquarters defeated Eastern Air Command (EAC) by 1-0, with the winning goal being scored by Brij Kanta.
In basketball, CAC defeated MC by a huge margin of 41-19. Ajay Dahiya of CAC scored 23 points for his team while Neeraj Yadav scored 15 points for MC team. In the second match WAC barely managed to defeat TC by 29-21. Ripu of WAC scored 11 points while Rohit Kumar of TC scored 06 points. In the third match, Air Headquarters routed EAC by 40-11. Marshal of Air HQ scored 12 points and Navin Balra scored 4 points for the losing team.
In cricket, CAC won the tie by defeating MC by 7 wickets.
Batting first, MC team could manage only 75 runs in 15 overs. Vivek and Abhijeet were highest scorers, with 10 runs each while Prashant and Ankit of CAC scalped two wickets each. In reply, CAC achieved the target by losing only 3 wickets. Sanjeev from CAC scored 20 runs.
In second match WAC defeated TC by 6 wickets. Batting first, TC could manage to score 34 runs in ten overs. Himanshu of TC was highest scorer with 8 runs while Ankit of WAC scalped 3 wickets. In reply, WAC achieved the target by losing only 4 wickets in just five overs. The third match between EAC and Air Headquarters was interrupted by rain.
In the table tennis (boys), MC defeated CAC by 2-0. In another match WAC won the match by 2-1. In third match, EAC got bye. In table tennis (girls) MC won by margin of 2-0. WAC was declared winners over TC by 2-1 and Air HQ won by 2-0 by defeating EAC.
In badminton, CAC was declared winner in both, the boys and the girls, events. While in another match of boys, Air HQ defeated EAC.
