New Delhi, Sept 22 (UNI) The government today gave formal approval to 17 special economic zones (SEZs), including one of 1,271 hectare by Bharat Forge near Pune with proposed investments of over 5,000 crore.
Jindal's JSW Bengal Steel at Midnapur in West Bengal, spread over 1,804 hectare, was also approved by the inter-ministerial board of approval (BoA) headed by Commerce Secretary Gopal Pillai.
It envisages an investment of 15,321 crore.
The BoA also gave its in-principle approvals to 10 tax-free zones, including a heavy engineering SEZ of 467 hectare to be built by Larsen and Toubro Shipbuilding in Tamil Nadu.
The project would see an investment of 1,665 crore, official sources said.
The airport-based multi-product SEZ in Himachal Pradesh by Skil Infrastructure also got the board's in-principal clearance.
