Singur, Sep 22 (UNI) The deadline for offering an additional ten per cent incentive to the ''unwilling farmers'' for accepting the state government's new compensation package has been extended to September 24.

Informing this to newspersons here today, Hooghly District Magistrate Neelam Meena said altogether 45 ''unwilling farmers'' had collected their cheques according to the new compensation package since the disbursement started on Friday.

''Besides, 70 others have submitted applications to the DM's office and we will hand over their cheques after verifying their authenticity,'' Ms Meena said.

The DM's office remained open on Saturday and Sunday to facilitate the land losers to complete official formalities and make enquiries.

The state government had recently declared a compensation package for the Singur land losers promising an extra payout of 50 per cent on the price given for the land acquired for the Tata Motors' Nano car project.

It had set September 22 as the deadline for gaining a further 10 per cent incentive and assured that one member of each family, having no other source of income, would be given a job while the unregistered sharecroppers and agricultural labourers would get 300 days' wages at one go.
