Chittorgarh, Sep 21 (UNI) Seven people were injured tonight after a clash between cattle traders and activists of some organisations over alleged smuggling of bovines to Gujarat.
Tension prevailed in the fort city even as activists of several organisations resorted to gherao at the City Kotwali.
According to official sources, bovine animals purchased in a cattle fair in Lambia village in Bhilwara district, were being taken to Gujarat by 'cattle smugglers' in 12 trucks. Activists of some religious organisations chased them from Gangrar in this district and stopped four trucks near Narpat Ki Khedi and Dhanet Kalan near here.
Four 'cattle smugglers' sustained serious injuries in clash with the mob while 16 people were nabbed by the police.
The injured were admitted to Sanwaliaji Hospital in serious condition.
Likewise, three trucks were stopped in Bhadsoda village and the mob beaten at least three cattle traders.
The situation turned to be serious in the town with a large number of activists of different organisations gathering outside the Kotwali till late night, the sources said.
