Chiranjeevi draws flak from Roja on weavers plight
Hyderabad, Sep 22 (UNI) TDP Women's Wing chief Roja today dismissed Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi's visit to Sircilla as an politically motivated to garner votes.
Chiranjeevi had told reporters that he was moved by the plight of the handloom weavers. They were struggling to make a living under hostile situation with the state government not doing enough to ameliorate their grievances.
The party formed a committee under the chairmanship of former bureaucrat K S R Murthy to suggest ways to improve their living conditions. The same would also be included in the party election manifesto.
Confirming that he would initiate a mass-contact programme early next month, he said instead of conducting road shows on a continuous basis, he would cover three districts at a stretch to interact with the people and know their problems.
Meanwhile, Ms Roja, addressing the party workers, asked why he had not not visited them on earlier occasions.
A day after his visit to Sircilla, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy yesterday referred to the series of welfare measures initiated for the handloom weavers, including houses with worksheds under the Indiramma programme.
