New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition L K Advani today hailed former President A P J Abdul Kalam's statement on combating terrorism as a 'great relief' holding out hope for all those working for building a national consensus for initiating effective measures including stringent anti-terror laws.
In his letter addressed to the former President, Mr Advani said he was happy to read in the media about Dr Kalam's statement expressing concern about terrorism imperilling India's security and unity, threatening the safety of the common man.
''Like you and millions of citizens in the country, I am extremely concerned that the issue of national and global importance was being ignored by a section of the political class.
Therefore your statement has come as a relief and a person of your eminence can help elevate the discourse on terrorism to a level where it can be discussed as a national problem requiring broad national consensus unimpaired by narrow electoral considerations,'' Mr Advani said.
''My intention in writing this letter is to request you to lead this initiative in a manner you see fit. I assure you the cooperation of my party and the NDA in this effort,'' Mr Advani wrote to Dr Kalam.
