Vadodara gears up for Delhi-ROI match for Irani Trophy

Vadodara, Sep 21 (UNI) Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has geared itself to host the Irani Trophy tie between Ranji Champions Delhi and the Rest of India, to be played at the Reliance Cricket stadium here from September 24.

With two days to go for the most important domestic match prior to the selection of the Indian squad for the four-test home series against mighty Australia, the picturesque Reliance stadium is buzzed with activities.

Rest of India's Vice Captain M S Dhoni was first to reach the city last evening, while other members of the side being led by ace spinner Anil Kumble arrived here today. Virender Sehwag led Delhi team was however scheduled to arrive here tomorrow.

Both the teams would have two days of net practice at the Reliance staduium from tomorrow, before the final assauit, on Wednesday, according to BCA media manager Jatin Vakil.

This is for the first time that BCA is hosting the Irani Trophy match in Vadodara. Two of the national selectors Venkatpathy Raju (south zone) and Rajiv Biswal (East zone) will be reaching here tomorrow to witness the crucial match, where almost all the members of the Indian team, excluding injured Sachin Tendulkar, former skipper saurav Ganguly and all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, would be seen in action.

As selection of the Indian team for the four-match Test series against Ricky Ponting led Australian team is likely to be held here after the match, all the players would try to showcase their capabilities to find a berth in the squad.

The association had insured the match for Rs 2.45 crores, while inviting the public to watch the five-day tie free of charge.

As part of the elaborate security measures, altogether 30 CCTV Cameras have been installed in and around the stadium, which would be closely monitored by the Vadodara police in the police control room, set up in the stadium premises, sources said.
