Lucknow, Sep 21 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today blamed the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government for the spurt in terrorism in the state and called upon the Centre to go for stringent measures to wipe out terrorism from the country.
''The spread of terrorism in UP should be attributed to the bad governance and leniency showed towards the criminals by the previous SP government,'' Ms Mayawati said, adding her government controlled the situation and was committed to prevent any terrorist act in the state.
She said the Centre should immediately come out with stringent measures to deal with terrorism, while the states should be provided all assistance to deal the menance. ''Special monitoring should be done at all international borders, while all facilities should be provided to the states which is on international borders'', the CM added.
Addressing a press conference, Ms Mayawati said her government would take tough actions against people violating law, but assured that minorities would not be targeted for terrorism. ''Our government would not tolerate any harrassment of the people of minority community in the name of terrorism,'' she said.
'' There should be no politics in dealing with terrorism in the country or state while fake encounters should be prevented,'' Ms Mayawati said, while indirectly indicating her concern for the minority vote bank.
