New Delhi, Sep 21 (UNI) In a month's time, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will be providing a Radio Taxi Service for Metro commuters with a tie up with "Cars on Rent (Easy Cabs)", a taxi service agency.
Initially, this agency will set up Kiosks at 25 Metro stations of the Delhi Metro including Rithala, Pitampura, Netaji Subhash Place, Welcome, Shahdara and Dilshad Garden on Line I, Vishwavidyalaya, Kashmere Gate, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat on Line II and Indraprastha, Pragati Maidan, Moti Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar, Janak Puri (West), Uttam Nagar(East) Dwarka, Dwarka Sec-10 and Dwarka Sec-9 in Line III.
From these locations, Metro commuters can contact the personnel manning the kiosk to book their taxis for their onward journey from that station, a DMRC spokesperson said.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will be charging a rental for the space given to M/s Easy Cabs and will also be receiving a portion of revenue generated as per a fixed formula worked out with the agency. The agreement with M/s Easy Cab is initially for 3 years.
These Taxis will help commuters reach South Delhi, Noida, Gurgoan, the Airport and other areas, once this service becomes operational. The Metro will be reaching this destination in Phase-II in the next 2 years by 2010 before the Commonwealth Games.
The DMRC already has 120 Feeder Buses which are running on 17 routes carrying over 60,000 commuters every day in them. DMRC is also providing on rent a cycle service to commuters at Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station which now has 30 cycles available for hire, as 15 new cycles have been inducted this month.
