Chandigarh, Sep 21 (UNI) Punjab State Electricity Board defeated Chandigarh Hockey Academy 2-1 in the inaugural match of the 38th SN Vohra's Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament here this evening.
The winners were leading 2-0 at the breather.
Power failure has delayed the start of the match by one hour.
Both the PSEB goals were came through the penalty corners.
PSEB fired the first salvo through Yadwinder Singh who converted a penalty corner in the 19th minute. Four minutes later, they got another penalty corner and Amrik Singh converted it with ease.
Chandigarh Hockey Academy reduced the margin with a field goal as Gurjant Singh scored in the 49th minute.
However, the CHA team failed to earn a single penalty corner in the match.
Earlier, Additional Director General of Police, Punjab, Chander Shekhar, who is also president of the Chandigarh Hockey Association, inaugurated the tournament.
Tomorrow's fixtures: Chandigarh XI vs J and K Police (1615 hrs) and Centre of Excellence, Patiala vs BSF Mohali (1730 hrs).
