Darbhanga, Sep 21: In a major breakthrough, police arrested six hardcore criminals of a dreaded inter-state gang near Town police station area in the district.
Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Daraad told newspersons here today that acting on a tip-off, the sleuths of Bihar police raided a vehicle parked near Tower chowk yesterday and arrested five miscreants of the Babloo Singh gang, actively operating in several other states, besides Bihar.
Of the arrested five criminals, one, namely Dr Devendra Singh, claimed himself to be an ASP rank officer of Delhi police. The police recovered an Identity card and some visiting cards from Dr Singh and investigation was on to ascertain whether they were fake or real.
A revolver, a country made pistol, cartridges in huge quantity, four cell phones and fake visiting cards were also recovered from their possession.
The vehicle has also been seized, the SP informed.
Mr Daraad further said on the basis of the information given by the arrested criminals during their preliminary interrogation, the police raided Pator village and arrested their accomplice Chandan Bhagat.
The gang had assembled at Tower chowk to commit some major crime at the behest of another local gang.
A number of criminal cases, including robbery, kidnapping for ransom, murder, were pending against these miscreants in various police stations. The arrested persons were being interrogated, Mr Daraad said.
