Amritsar, Sep 21 (UNI) Police arrested eight people in Civil Lines area here late last night for allegedly luring migrant labourers in Punjab to sell off their kidney in Bihar.
Police sources said the accused, who were nabbed while enjoying a Saturday night drink party at Majitha Road, had sold off their one kidney and were involved in spreading the racket.
They have been identified as Sukhdev Kumar of Goraya, Jitendra Kumar of Nakodar, Paramjit Singh and Sonu of Amritar, Vijay of Shahpur Kandi, Shekhar of Patti, Suresh Kumar of New Delhi and Ali Mohammad of Bihar.
They used to operate in the migrant dominated clusters in the city to trace vulnerable labourers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and lured them with lucrative offers.
The victims were then taken to Bihar's capital Patna, where their one kidney used to be removed by fraud, police said.
Majitha Road plice has registered a case against all and was investigating the matter, police sources said adding that they were hoping to nab others involved in the racket after interrogating these accused.
They said the police teams would also get in touch with Bihar police to get to the bottom of the crime and bring all the guilty to the book.
Earlier, in March this year, a kidney racket was busted in Amritsar, police said.
