Woman worker injured in stone pelting
Kolhapur, Sep 20 (UNI) A woman worker of the Deccon Co-operative Spinning Mill was injured in a stone pelting incident in Ichalkaranji town of the district following a dispute between the mill management and workers over non-payment of dues amounting to Rs 23 crore.
Deccon Spinning Mill was acquired by a private company KSL a few years ago after the former was liquidated. But the workers were paid their dues. Hence, about 130 workers went on hunger strike in support of their demands from August 14.
Due to the agitation, the functioning of the spinning mill had stopped recently. When the present mill management tried to start the operations today, with adequate police forces, it led to stone pelting, in which a woman worker was injured, police said.
Police said two workers were detained in this connection. The situation in the area is tense but under control, as vehicular traffic on connecting roads was closed to avoid any incident.
Workers' leaders Babasaheb Nalge and Vilas Lotke told reporters that their agitation will continue until the workers get the pending dues.
