Two Mizoram districts to get special package
Aizawl, Sep 20 (UNI) Mamit and Lawngtlai districts in Mizoram among 90 districts in the country have been identified as ''minority concentration districts'' obtaining special attention during the 11th Five Year Plan period.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs will give special package to the districts to ensure that they catch up with the already advanced districts. The Centre had earmarked Rs 24.3 crore for Lawngtlai and Rs 21.6 crore for Mamit, official sources said.
A state level meeting to this effect was held under the chairmanship of chief secretary Haukhum Hauzel here yesterday which appointed social welfare department as nodal department.
During the meeting, the need for creating a post of Deputy Development Commissioner was also felt to ensure effective implementation of the programme.
Sources said a ''baseline survey'' had been conducted to find out various factors responsible for the backwardness of the districts.
