Imphal, Sep 20 (UNI) Manipur University Tribal Students Union(MUTSU) president, Sonthang Haokip has demanded 34 percent reservation for tribals in Manipur Central University.

Speaking to reporters here he said, MUTSU was never pleased with the way the university authority dealt with the tribals.

MUTSU is annoyed with the authority as the latter disrespected the advice of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, to go slow on recruitment in the university, he stated.

He further said there is seven percent reservation in MU while the tribal population in Manipur is 34 percent.

Meanwhile MU authority has said that they can not take a decision arbitrarily on the issue as it is a Central University and all India norms are applied for the admission.

There is seven percent reservation for tribals throughout the country which is followed here as well, the authority added.
