Tension grips as student dies in wall collapse
Hyderabad, Sep 20 (UNI) A boy was killed and 28 injured when a parapet wall in the third floor of Narayana Junior College collapsed at Chenglecherla near Ghatkesar on the city outskirts today.
Enraged over the mishap, activists of various students union staged a demonstration in front of the educational institution demanding arrest of the management.
Irate activists damaged window panes and furniture at the corporate institution in protest against improper infrastructure for students at the ''concept school'' which prepared students for higher professional education.
The injured, including four in a serious condition, were rushed to a nearby private hospital where one of them was admitted to Intensive Care Unit(ICU).
Taking a serious view of private schools conducting classes in overcrowded classrooms, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy directed the officials to fix responsibility for the mishap.
The Government announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh for the family of the deceased.
Police said the parapet wall of the unfinished building gave in when the students rushed for lunch after the bell.
The body of a boy, identified as Lokesh, was recovered from the slump in the building. A search was on to find out if any other student had fallen into it.
School Education Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha told reporters that action would be taken against the guilty after a high-level inquiry into the mishap.
