Surjewala demands 'girdwari' and compensation for lost crop
Kaithal, Sept 20 (UNI) President of the All-India Kisan Khet Kisan Mazdoor Congress Shamsher Singh Surjewala has urged the Haryana Government to order a special 'girdwari' of crops in the wake of the massive damage caused by heavy rains during the past three days.
Addressing a press conference here today, he said that 200 to 250 mm of rain had been reported from various parts of the state due to which bajra crop had suffered the ''most serious'' damage while major damage to cotton and pulses too had been reported.
Paddy crop which was ready for harvesting too had got dislodged, resulting in massive damage to its grains. The paddy crop which the farmers had already brought and dumped in mandis had also suffered huge damage, he added.
Mr Surjewala, who is also an MLA from Kaithal, said that adequate compensation should be given to farmers immediately after assessment of the losses.
