Sentencing in Khairlanji murder case on Sep 24
Bhandara, Maharashtra, Sep 20 (UNI) A trial court here today set September 24 as the date for handing down the punishment to the eight people held guilty in the case pertaining to the gruesome killing, almost two years ago, of four members of a Dalit family in village Khairlanji in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
First Ad Hoc Judge and First Additional Sessions Judge S S Das, who is hearing the case, set the date after hearing arguments from the prosecution as well as the defence on the quantum of arguments today.
Earlier, the prosecution sought capital punishment for the guilty, saying it was the 'rarest of rare' cases and that the murders had been carried out with extreme cruelty, while the defence pleaded for leniency, saying the guilty were not hardcore criminals.
