Morinda (Rupnagar), Sep 20 (UNI) Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni today said that the three-day visit of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to Punjab would provide a new direction to the youth of the state.
While addressing a meeting of the Congress and Youth Congress workers regarding the visit of Rahul Gandhi at Morinda today, Ms Soni said that the visit would also invigorate the Youth Congress and take this frontal organisation of the party to new heights.
She said Rahul Gandhi was working for the development of the country by rising above the party considerations adding that he would also meet the Congress workers, who had faced high-handedness of Akali Dal-BJP government in the various elections taken place in Punjab during the past few months.
She urged the Youth Congress and Congress workers to give a tumultuous welcome to Rahul Gandhi on his arrival at Morinda on September 22.
Talking to media persons later, Ms Soni evaded reply to the question whether she would contest the Lok Sabha elections from Anandpur Sahib constituency saying that only party high command would decide in this regard.
While addressing the meeting Leader of Opposition in Punjab assembly Rajinder Kaur Bhattal lashed out at Akali Dal-BJP government accusing it of ''throttling'' the democracy.
