Kochi, Sep 20 (UNI) Kerala Finance Minister T M Thomas Issac today accused the Congress in the state of trying to destroy the government-sponsored 'Kudumbasree' poverty alleviation scheme by floating a parallel 'Janasree' mission.
Addressing a press conferenece here, Mr Issac refuted Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy's claims that the LDF Government had not allotted any funds for 'Kudumbasree' during the past one year.
The LDF government had in fact disbursed nearly Rs 46 crore as micro-finance since 2006 for various ''Kudumbasree'' projects. It had also started other initiatives, including opening of Kudumbasree sales centres in all districts to retail products manufactured by the self-help groups working under 'Kudumbasree', he said.
Questioning the rationale of a national political party floating a parallel scheme to ''destroy'' a successful poverty alleviation programme of the state government, Mr Issac said such programmes should be treated above political divisions.
Noting that the Congress party's 'Janasree' scheme was not meant only for Below the Poverty Line (BPL) families, Mr Isssac claimed that money would get diverted from the poor, who were the beneficiaries of micro-finance under 'Kudumbasree'.
Demanding that the Congress withdraw its scheme, he said that would be in the interest of poor people of the state.
