Lucknow, Sep 20 (UNI) Heavy rainfall creating havoc in most parts of Uttar Pradesh since Thursday has claimed over hundred lives, however, the state government confirmed only 82 deaths.
The heavy rainfall along with high intensity winds had caused great damages in Sitapur, Lakhimpur, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly districts and the state capital Lucknow.
Several 'Kachcha makan' tumbled down killing 42 people in Sitapur district, 18 in Lakhimpur, seven in Barabanki, five in Lucknow, four each Unnav and Budaun in whereas in Shahjahanpur and Rai Bareli three each. Allahabad, Jaunpur, Pilibhit, Agra, Basti and Ferozabad claimed one life each.
High velocity winds crashed to ground several roadside tress and hoarding, stranding traffic for several hours, besides waterlogging also posed problems to the commuters.
According to railway sources, many trains were running late due to inclement weather.
Besides, power supply and communication services were also affected.
UP relief commissioner G K Tondon today confirmed that 82 persons had succumbed in yesterday's widespread heavy downpour. The family ils will be provided an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each, he apprised.
Meanwhile, list of number of house collapsed was being prepared, Mr Tondon added.
